Kitchen Cutlery Sets - Learn How It Is All Made

Even though you might have never thought about it before, you might really want to make sure that you have a basic understanding of how kitchen cutlery sets are made. The reason for this is because you are going to spend a lot of money on a quality set of kitchen cutlery. In order to make sure that you really know what it is that you are looking for, you are going to want that basic understanding of how it is made and also the difference between stamped cutlery and forged cutlery.

First and foremost, you want to make sure that you are learning the real difference between the stamped, or sometimes called die-cut, cutlery and the forged cutlery. To start with, if you took an example of each, you would most likely be able to tell the difference right away. The forged cutlery is going to be the superior cutlery because each and every piece is made through a special molding process.

With the die-cut flatware, you are going to find that there will be some rough edges. You have to be careful because such edges can be extremely sharp and might even injure you. Obviously, for such reasons, these particular kinds of flatware are going to be a little on the cheap side where the price is concerned. These are generally the flatware that you will find in the dollar store. These are not what will be found in the high-end retailers.

All of the flatware will go through the same creation process up to a certain point. When it is time to make specialized pieces, such as the spoons, forks and knives, there will be specialized steps. Once all of the various pieces of flatware are cut or stamped, they will go through an electroplating process if they are to be silver-plated. First they will be buffed and then they will be cleaned with about twelve different kinds of chemicals. Then, it's electrolysis time where the silver layer is placed on the metal base. After all of that, the flatware is then polished.

As you can see, there are a lot of different steps for the kitchen cutlery sets. This may not have been something that you would have thought about prior to now, but it is good to know. This way, when it is time to shop for new kitchen cutlery sets, you will not have to worry about making the wrong decision and wasting your money because you will know what goes into the entire process and what to expect. Also, you should now be able to help your friends and family with deciding just what they want to get when it comes to individual pieces of flatware or entire sets of kitchen cutlery.

Popular Japanese Cutlery and the Shun Elite Knives

The most important thing a chef can do is choose a proper set cutlery. They usually have their favorite knives that they use most often. It can be an overwhelming task, especially if you're looking for one that best meets your needs.

The world's highest quality of forged knives are said to be manufactured in Japan, the land famous for the Samurai swords. Every piece of blade undergoes great time and care during the forging process. The Kershaw Shun Company, in particular are is known for their quality of knives because each piece carries precision, has a flawless finish, is perfectly balanced, and is extremely razor-sharp.

The company applies innovative technology and special skills, thus making them the leading cutlery maker. Excellent quality and craftsmanship have become the basis for each design. The Shun Kaji Fusion knives have been the product of over 700 years of sword making tradition in Japan. The usability and strength of each blade is unmatched. What makes the product even better are the special designs so that chefs feel that the knives are the extension of their arms.

If precision cutting is a priority, check out these knives. They are actually very popular among professional chefs because they are much lighter than western and European knives. The blades are sharp and are forged to precision so that every kitchen need is met. They hold their edges very well and slice evenly. Chop, cut, dice, and slice with ease as long as you have the Shun brand held in your hand.

The Kershaw Shun's line of Elite knives is the ultimate marriage between metal technology and traditional Japanese elegance. They offer only the best with superior quality stamped on each product. Found on the core of a Shun Elite knife is the SG-2 exotic powdered steel that has been hardened under heat and pressure so that it becomes a dense and hard alloy.

The Rockwell rating (otherwise known as a rating to test hardness) of Shun Elite is 64. This is actually very impressive because most kitchen knives scored ratings between 56 to 58 Rockwell. The SG-2 molecular structure is the finest in use in today's era. If this type of innovation is incorporated into the knife, you get an edge that lasts longer than its counterparts. The edge is amazingly smooth and incredibly sharp. It is also able to respond quickly to a honing rod should you need it to.

The Shun Elite core is clad between two layers of only the best 410A stainless steel. The outer layers are there for flexibility, corrosion protection, strength, and beauty. Aside from all of these elements added to the mix, they have also made sure that there is an element added for stick-resistance while cutting. The handles, on the other hand, are a mix of ornate beauty and functionality.

The durable laminated hardwood called Pakka Wood serves as the ergonomic handle so that not only is the knife sturdy, you can also feel comfortable while you hold it in your hand. The handles are studded with details of thin rings of brass and copper, and an inlay of a traditional Japanese symbol.
